50 Cent Joins "Detox?"

50 Cent Joins ''Detox?''
It looks like 50 Cent and Dr. Dre have put their differences behind them.
The former affiliates were reportedly feuding earlier this year over their rival headphone brands, Dre's Beats By Dre and 50's Sleek By 50; but now that 50 has dismantled his headphone line, it looks like the two are buddies again. 50 revealed that he has done some recording for Dre's long-awaited Detox album.

Lil Wayne Explains "How To Love"

Lil Wayne Explains ''How To Love''
Lil Wayne recently revealed his creative approach to his single "How To Love." The guitar-driven song is unusual for most mainstream Weezy singles--Rebirth notwithstanding--and he knows fans may have been surprised by it. But for Wayne, it's all about pushing himself creativity and challenging hip hop's typical conventions. [video here]
"I can tell you that I’ve never had a single like it, and it’s an amazing song. It’s an amazing song.[...]When I listen to it I get goose bumps and I feel like the song is gonna take me somewhere that I’ve never been musically.”
“You know that if you come to a Lil Wayne show two years from now, you already know that ‘I’m gonna get rap — some of the best rap — I’m gonna get some guitar, I’m gonna get some singin’, I’m gonna get some dancin’, I’m gonna get some old-school music, and I’m goin’ to a show tonight,’" he added. "And I think that’s where this song is directing me to.[...]I am a musician, and a few years back, I noticed that I wasn’t just a rapper. And Inoticed that I didn’t want to do this just to rap. I do want to go down as one of the greatest rappers of all time, but I also want to go down as one of the greatest musicians of all time."
“When you think about it, Tupac is just known as a great rapper; Biggie is just known as a great rapper, Jay-Z — just known as a great rapper," continued Wayne. "I want to be known as that rapper that turned it all the way up and became the face of the music. When they make a billboard and put whoever they gonna put up there to define the word ‘music,’ I wanna be there.”

Chelsea Handler On Rappers

Chelsea Handler On Rappers:
Chelsea Handler recently opened about her fixation on rappers. The talk show host says that she loves rappers because they have few inhibitions, though she still takes shots at Diddy for showing up late to a taping.
"Rappers are great interviews because they just don't really care and they are willing to say anything," Handler said in an interview. "And I love that because that's kind of how I am. They all hit on me. I love Pharrell and thought he was really sweet; Nelly, too...P. Diddy was the only one I was like, 'Get away from me.' He's so late all the time--maybe he won't show up in the Hamptons until summer is over."

Alicia Keys is this month's W magazine cover story, and the superstar singer/songwriter discusses her beginnings. It's been a decade since Keys' crashed onto the pop charts with her hit "Falling," and the married mother reflected on her start as a talented teen.
“I just wanted to be who I was, which was like so many other girls I knew. We grew up in the city, had a hard edge and obstacles to overcome, but we were still young and beautiful," Keys says. "I didn’t want to be all dressed up, all made up—I wanted to be myself, which hadn’t been done before.”
“I was a young girl with very strong ideas but no experience," she added. "I just knew that everything else I was doing was wrong—that all the suggestions weren’t what was in my mind, they weren’t what it was meant to be.”
“How terrible would it have been if I had come out with some watered-down version of who I am? People fell in love with the real me, and I still feel blessed that that was how the journey began,” she shared.

Eve Has Advice For Lil Kim

Eve Has Advice For Lil Kim
Rapper Eve has some advice for her fellow 90s rap veteran femcee Lil Kim. The Philly native thinks Kim should stop with the melodramatics and the childish feuding with Nicki Minaj and get back to making great music. To Eve, the entire situation paints Kim in a negative light.
"I need her to stop. If I was Kim's friend, I'd be like, yo. Because she's Kim, period," Eve said in an interview. "So she never has to feed. She shouldn't. It's bad. It's not a good look. If I was her friend, I'd tell her, yo, just come back bigger and better. The best way to get at people is to do you better than you've ever done you. So that's it...I love it."
"You know, it's definitely a nice group of females that's out representing, but because I come from hip-hop, I need more females in hip-hop," she continued. "Nicki definitely is holding the flag down, and a lot of people be wanting me to hate just because that's how girls supposed to do in hip-hop, but I'm loving everything she does. But we need more females, man. There's too much testosterone in the hip-hop game."

Wale On Lady Gaga

Wale On Lady Gaga:
Wale pointed out the fact that he played an 'integral' role in the emergence of Lady Gaga. Having had the eccentric pop superstar on his Attention Deficit album in 2009, Wale said he deserves a little more credit for helping to launch the phenomenon.
"I made her whole career," Wale jokingly said in an interview. "It's one of those things; it's a moment that I hold near and dear to me, 'cause she's probably the most famous person in this generation right now. I don't think she'd probably ever get on a rap record again."

Rick Ross Motivated By Wiz Khalifa

Rick Ross Motivated By Wiz Khalifa
Rick Ross revealed in a recent interview that an early rejection has motivated his Maybach Music imprint's latest successes. The label put in a bid for Wiz Khalifa, and the upstart Pittsburgh emcee declined. Wiz's decision convinced Ross to step his game up on the business end.
"I put the proposition out there. But at the time, Maybach Music wasn't really where we were supposed to be, which was a lot of motivation," Ross explained. "The homey made a great decision, going to Atlantic Records. He's released a classic album, and I wish him much success. But it also inspired me and it also reassured me that I had a certain eye. I remember when I put Wiz on the 'Super High' remix, a lot of people was like, 'Why would you put a rookie on your record?'"

Cover Rolling Out Angela & Vanessa Simmons

As businesswomen who are always on the go, what advice would give to women who are looking to balance a relationship with a hectic schedule?
Vanessa:
It’s all about balance and understanding on both sides. You have to have a man who knows what you do and respects that. If he can’t respect that you have to be on the road for two weeks, then he isn’t the man for you. But it comes down to communication. Having love for each other will take you through.
What qualities are attractive in a guy?
Vanessa:
A guy needs to make me laugh. He must be loyal. I have to sense and know that you are a loyal person. He also has to stand for something.

Vanessa: I enjoyed doing the show because I got to work with my family and just goof off in front of the camera. But there are so many people in your life and that’s kind of scary. After we finished taping “Daddy’s Girls,” I had to go into my little shell. I had to renew myself. People were judging me on things that normal people do. I had to take time for myself. I deleted my Twitter and I don’t go out as much. I’m just like everyone else; the only difference is that I’m under a microscope.

Angela: When “Run’s House” first aired, I remember being on 42nd Street with my friends and someone came up to me and said, “You’re Angela Simmons from ‘Run’s House!’ ” It was kind of weird moment at first, but I’ve gotten used to it now. But the show changed things because people are now looking at you when you step out. Any and every thing you do is ridiculed. People comment about you wearing short shorts. My response is that I’m 23 and I’m doing what a 23-year-old does. I’m just being normal and having fun. I’m not doing anything wrong. They judge you quicker for dating more than one guy. Or if I’m seen with a guy, people think I’m dating him. Can I just be a normal 23-year-old who breaks up with a guy and moves on? But overall, it’s pretty cool to be able to have a good influence on people as well as everything else [that came with being a part of the show].
What qualities are attractive in a guy?
Angela:
I like a guy who is funny and smart. You don’t have to be a geek, but you have to be open to exploring new things. If you come into it narrow-minded, it’s a waste of time.
Honesty is important too. Even it will hurt my feelings, I’d rather you be honest than to lie to me.
What’s the perfect first date?
Angela:
Good conversation and good laughs. Pick my brain, let’s talk. I don’t want too much. I like flowers, but don’t come through with one rose and think that this is it. Let’s have a good time and just be yourself.

Snoop Criticizes Dr. Dre

Snoop Criticizes Dr. Dre
Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are as close as peanut butter and jelly, but the Doggfather had some choice words for his old friend and mentor regarding the approach on Dre's long-delayed Detox album. According to Snoop, the Doctor is screwing with the formula that made 1992's The Chronic and 1999's 2001 classic albums.
"He's got a strong work ethic and I'm gonna say this," Snoop Dogg told Tim Westwood. "I don't know if it's gonna ruffle any feathers, I just think the wrong people are in the environment. When he made records that were hit records in the past, D.O.C., Snoop Dogg, RBX, Kurupt, it's pieces that's not there that need to be there. And I'll say D.O.C. and Snoop Dogg is the backbone. When you take those two equations and take them out of the equation, it's not gonna work. You need to put them two back into the equation and let us mastermind head the project like we did Chronic and 2001. That's what's missing."

Amber Rose Still Has Love For Kanye

Amber Rose Still Has Love For Kanye

"People think me and Kanye are enemies, and we are not enemies. He wants the best for me, still," she said in the magazine. "Let me say this: I still love Kanye. I will always love him as a person. I will always love him for what he's done for me. I still always have that soft spot in my heart for him. I am not in love with him. I do not look at him in a sexual way anymore. I'm in love with someone else. I still love him as a person and want him to find happiness like I did. Everyone deserves that."

Wale On Rick Ross' Mentorship

Wale On Rick Ross' Mentorship:
Rapper Wale recently revealed just how much he's learned since he's been affiliated with Rick Ross' Maybach Music. The D.C. rapper says being Ross has given him a deeper appreciation of music and being an artist.
"I never knew how to get lost in music. I never knew how to just wake up, smoke a J, and play music all day," Wale explained when asked what he has learned from Ross. "I do that now. When I recorded [my 2009 debut] Attention Deficit, I treated the studio like it was a 9-5. I walked in there with my briefcase--which was my book bag--with my music, some energy drinks, and some weed. I come in at 11 and I clocked out at five no matter what I got done. Now, there's times where I left the studio at nine in the morning after I went in at six the night before."

50 Cent Inks Cell Phone Deal
50 Cent is reportedly launching a new cell phone venture. According to 50's manager, Chris Lighty, the G-Unit head has signed a deal with UberMedia to debut Uber50, a custom theme for users of UberMedia's Blackberry-based Twitter app UberSocial.
"[The deal between 50 and UberMedia] was [struck] during the period that Uber got locked out of Twitter and got fined," Lighty said. "[50] had to use a different app. He was one of them [going crazy] and one of the more vocal [ones.] Uber saw that and contacted us."
Additionally, 50 Cent also plans to move further into the health foods market. The rapper plans to launch a vitamin supplement company.
"We're working on a new supplement company," Lighty said. "We're going to build new supplements cause it's a big opportunity like Vitamin Water was. We want to market and promote it when we put out 50's album. There are different options of penetration for supplements through music; like going to GNC [for] protein shakes, vitamins, [etc.]. No beverage. When you go to a vitamin shop, there's no one of pop culture [representing], it's mostly muscle heads. We'll cut through the clutter with 50 in the store saying, 'You want to be 10% of me so take what I'm taking.'"

Wale Vs. Bin Laden's Mistress?

Wale Vs. Bin Laden's Mistress?
Kola Boof--you know, the woman that was 'gettin' it in' with Osama Bin Laden, launched into a tirade on Twitter yesterday (May 23rd) against Maybach Music rapper Wale. Blasting the D.C. rapper for not embracing dark skinned women in his videos, Boof spewed expletive after expletive in what has to be one of the oddest and most ridiculous Twitter beefs in recent memory.
“There wasn’t a single Black woman in “Pretty Girls”…so what in the f— was he saying about African women??" Boof tweeted. "Why wouldn’t NIGERIAN children want to bleach their skin after watching a WALE video??" Boof added. "How could they not? This chick needs to take her pills. For his part, Wale stood up for himself later on.
"Kola boof… I won’t beef with you as a rapper, but as a proud black man with intellect," Wale said. "We can show the world what ignorance looks like. Excuse me @KolaBoof."
"According to this lunatic @kolaboof I promote “skin bleaching” and I hate black women," the rapper continued. "And @kolaboof thinks that because she contributed to writing a few books, that she can talk down to me. With all due respect ms @kolaboof I can sit up here and say you were porking terrorist…like a lot of your peers say. But I’d rather not, because I’m ignorant to @kolaboof whatever relationship you had with Ol’ Boy [Osama bin Laden]. ..and my ignorance to THAT particular subject will keep me quiet. W/ that said u should 2. @kolaboof your pretentious. Your a disgusting human being, an absolute disgrace to the very people you pretend to endorse."

Birdman Outlasted His Competitors

Birdman Outlasted His Competitors
Brian "Birdman" Williams took a moment to marvel at Cash Money's staying power in a recent interview with XXL magazine. The Cash Money founder has noticed that many of the rappers and labels that were there when he began has journey have come and gone in the many years since.
"When I look around, through my years and my time, you know, the game, it was a lot in the field, a lot of people doing it," he says. "And I look around, and it's like, where the f*ck did everybody go? I ain't never understood that, but the game like that sometimes, that muthaf*cka's gon' keep ya or it's gon' leave ya. It's all on you."
Baby also discussed Wayne's growth as a businessman with Young Money.
"Honestly, I gave him the floor," Baby says of Weezy. "He wanted it. I been with him since he was seven years old, eight years old. I been in his life all of his life, and he was like, "Let me handle, it." At the time, me as an artist, losing my sister and everything I was going through personally, I was just like, 'Go ahead, I'ma just support what you gon' do. You can handle it.' And I took a step back. Probably was the [smartest] move I ever made in my life was to let him go 'head."

Britney & Rihanna Too Hot For TV?

Britney & Rihanna Too Hot For TV?
Rihanna's racy performance with Britney Spears at last weekend's Billboard Music Awards didn't sit so well with the Parent's Television Council. On top of the bondage-themed outfits, there was a kiss between the two singers that was edited out of the performance, but nonetheless managed to ruffle the feathers of the watchdog group.
“What happened in Vegas should have stayed in Vegas, as the saying goes. It certainly has no place at 8:00 p.m. on the publicly-owned broadcast airwaves," Parent’s Television Council president Tim Winter said via statement.
“I cannot imagine what would possibly lead the ABC television network to air a profanity-laced, S&M sex show on primetime broadcast television," Winters added. "The overtly sexualized performance by Rihanna and Britney Spears was no accident or mishap, but a deliberate effort to target teens with images and lyrics that glamorize whips, chains and other sexual fantasies.”

Faith & Her Ex Speak On Their Split

Faith & Her Ex Speak On Their Split
Singer Faith Evans, former wife of the late Notorious B.I.G., is divorcing her husband/manager of 14 years Todd Russaw. The estranged couple issued a statement regarding the split, but offered few details aside from the basic 'we want to do what's best for the kids' type of declarations.
“The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone’s life," the statement read. "However, after a great deal of thought and careful consideration, we have come to the decision to end our marriage together. We will both remain committed to parenting our children and will also continue to support each other’s professional endeavors. We consider this a private matter and we will not make any further statement regarding the matter. We would appreciate the press respecting the privacy of our family, particularly our children, as we attempt to handle our situation with respect and dignity.”

Good Videos! Anyone??? By Steph

Good Videos! Good Videos! Come out! Come out! Where ever you are!!!!!!!!!
When is the last time you’ve seen a hip hop  video that was so good you wanted to watch it over and over again?  (I am going to exclude Kayne &  Jay-Z). Crickets…I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a video that I was blown away by.  I understand that budgets for videos have dramatically decreased but why can’t people still find creative ways to make good videos.  I blame both artist as well as directors.   Artist because they keep accepting these same video treatments that those directors throw at them.  Directors because they are suppose to be the visual architects who make the song come to life and hopefully make people like the song even more.   These videos just aren’t doing that for me.  Ok, honestly the last video that I liked was Lil Wayne’s video for  “6’7” because of the Inception concept but even that video I didn’t have a desire to watch over and over.
I was completely disappointed by  Ace Hood’s “Hustle Hard” both the original and the remix video.  It was such a hard song that it needed a strong visual to commitment it but that did not happen.  The remix video even more because that was the more popular version of the song.  They took so long to release the video and honestly they shouldn’t have released one at all because the finished product was terrible!  I think I could have directed a better video then that.  All the director did was literally take everything that was said in the video, threw some beautiful  girls in workout outfits sprinkle in a few rappers and put in front of a green screen.  Really?!!!!  And it looked cheap! (in pray it didn’t cost any money lol) Every video can’t be money, cars, hoes and the hood!  Give me something different.  Even if I may not understand the complete concept I will appreciate the fact that something different was tried.
I really wonder if some artist watch their videos and think to themselves “This video is some bulls*it did I really pay for this?!!!” because I know that what I think when I watch most of them.   Now don’t get me wrong some of the videos are cool but I don’t have the desire to watch them over and over again, which to me defeats the purpose of making a video at all.  I laugh everytime I see these behind the scenes or sneak peeks at the videos because in the end they leave a lot to be desired  and set the public up to be disapointed by the finished product. Will I never again see a “Victory” type video???    I know that records aren’t selling like they use to but I need labels to open these video budgets up; and artist and directors  have to use some originality and spend the money wisely.   I want  to be left in awe when I finish watching a video, is that too much to ask?!!!

Toya On Lil Wayne's Daughter:

Toya On Lil Wayne's Daughter:
Lil Wayne's ex-wife Latoya has shared that the couple's daughter is every bit as gifted as her famous father. According to Toya, it's only a matter of time before little Reginae's star begins to truly shine.
"Yes, Reginae is very talented," Toya told SOHH. "She is very talented, smart and wise beyond her years. And I know Wayne feels the same way, that she's a star. [Her future?] It's really whatever she wants to do. She been doing music with her dad lately. As long as she's doing what she has to do in school and making good grades, I'll support anything else."

Rick Ross Bashes "No Homo"

Rick Ross Bashes ''No Homo''
Rick Ross has gone on the record regarding hip hop's obsession with 'no homo.' Ross says he doesn't use the phrase and doesn't see why so many people are so insecure that they feel the need to constantly pepper their conversations with 'no homo.'
"I've been on Twitter before, and somebody will say something to me with "no homo" at the end," Ross said. "And I'm like, Why the f*ck would you even need to say that? ... I don't use it. There's no reason. I mean you Tweet me, I hope you're no homo. They'll be like, 'Yo man, let me get your blunt, no homo.' That's why I don't smoke with nobody."

Nicki Minaj On 'Queen of Hip Hop

Nicki Minaj On 'Queen of Hip Hop:'
Nicki Minaj was flattered at Rolling Stone magazine calling her the new 'Queen of Hip Hop' some months back. Nicki sounded humbled by the recognition but acknowledged that there is no real weight to the 'title,' and that she doesn't make music so that she can be dubbed the 'queen' of anything.
"It was very, very amazing to me," Minaj said. "I was so excited 'cause [Rolling Stone's] really respected, and then when I went on all the TV shows, they kept on saying, 'She's been dubbed the New Queen of Hip-Hop by Rolling Stone magazine,' so I was like, that happened at the perfect time...I'm honored because I obviously have been working hard to get to this place. Whether or not I'm the queen of anything, everybody's gonna have their own opinion and I don't do this thinking 'I'm the queen of this, I'm the queen of that.' I just feel like I'm working hard and I just want people to recognize that."

Nas Gushes Over His Kids

Nas Gushes Over His Kids
Nas is one proud papa. The Queensbridge lyricist recently opened up about his love for his little ones. And though his legal battles with his ex-wife, pop star Kelis, are well-documented, the rapper still beams when discussing their son and his older daughter.
"My kids are my everything," he said. "I got the best kids in the whole world. My daughter is at the age where she can call me up and tell me what she thinks about Beyonce's new video and what she thinks about Wiz Khalifa and we can talk about it all. My son is walking and talking and he's no joke. I got the best kids in the world. I walk around everyday very blessed."
